Stand Up for Science Facilitates Over 1,200 Federal Register Comments in Response to NSF Proposed Rule Changes

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Following the launch of Stand Up for Science’s Stop Vought, Save Science Action Center earlier this summer, individuals and organizations have submitted over 1,200 public comments through the site’s comment portal. The proposal received over 10,000 total comments during the public comment period, which closed last night. Stand Up for Science’s portal facilitated more than ten percent of those comments.

“We saw unprecedented pushback on the OMB rule earlier this summer from a public concerned by a political and ideological takeover of scientific funding — and we saw it again in response to the NSF’s proposal. The NSF rule changes pose a direct threat to independent science as well as the universities that perform the majority of the research it funds,” said Dr. Colette Delawalla, Founder and CEO of Stand Up for Science.

In addition to the comment portal, Stand Up for Science’s Action Center provides an overview of the proposed NSF rule and its implications, a guide for writing comments, and resources for calling and emailing members of Congress about the proposal. SUFS is also held two workshops to provide live, hands-on help with comments.

The rule is an overhaul of how the National Science Foundation manages its grantmaking program, and proposes to align NSF rules with the not-yet-finalized OMB grant rule proposal released earlier this year. The NSF proposal also imposes increased information collection and other institutional requirements on universities.
